odd sound after bug shield install??

After I installed a profile+ bugshield I am getting something that sounds like a box of marbles rattling...it sounds like it is coming from the outside at the top of the windshield...I first thought maybe it was the antenna, so I took it off and still had the sound. I have checked all the trim pieces and everything feels tight. Is this just the sound of the redirected airflow hitting the top of the windshield? It starts at about 55mph. Thanks

could one of two things...

the deflector is vibrating. If so, remove at once as this would mean that it is rubbing and damagin you hood.

the second is the wind flow over the windsheild and roof of the truck as you have changed the wind profile of the truck (think of the wind tunnel tests) With this in mind the noise could be wind itself, causing a harmonic distortion on the antenna or wipers.

Did it come with the little stick on rubber bumpers? If it did, put them on! I've heard some bug shields make the mirrors vibrate too. Weird, huh?,,,,98

It attached into existing holes under the hood in 4 places, it then has a little clip on each end that holds in down on the hood and then at the very end there is a little circle of velco that holds the end down snug. It is very solid, so I don't think it is making the noise, the mirrors are snug and like I said I even took the antenna off...I can't see anything that could be rattling, (and it is not the wipers either), and I don't see how the wind hitting the top of the windshield could sound like that...it is driving me nuts!

I have heard the same in My 99 Expedition 4X4. I do have a bug/stone shield on the front, and have it it there since the truck was a couple of days old, but I hear the noise you describe only when driving with about a 70 mph crosswind. I just thought it was the rack on the roof, but now that you describe it, it sort of does sound ratteling marbles.

I have had the same problem on a Toyota 4Runner and Mazda MPV. It sounded to me like the wiper blades were rattling, then I removed the bug shield (GTO brand) and it went away. So, I think this problem is endemic to lots of bug shield owners who are sensitive to noise. I frankly didn't notice that I was getting fewer bugs on my windshield anyway. So my Supercrew will have to go without.

MY bro. in-law installed a bug shield on his 93 suburban several years back. The wind changed the aerodynamics of the vehicle. About a year later, his cheap made, expensive, mirrors were beat to death.

This made me re-think and decide to not install a bug shield on our 99 F-150; eventhough the F-150's mirrors are stout, compared to the small flimsy chevy mirrors.

I keep the shield on, not so much for bugs, but the gravel trucks beat the front end to death on the freeways around here. Even covered they constantly drop stones on the road at speed, which all seem to have homeing devices that seek my truck! The shield helps, the front edge of the hood, at least, but my windshield has still taken a gravel beating.
