20 inch Lightning rims

I bought a set of 20 inch lightning rims for my truck it looks sweet but i just got on the pedal in my truck tonight and it was struggeling to get past 95 where i used to be able to bury it past 100 now now my question is. Is the reason my truck is struggling because it has a weak lil 6 cyl and the extra width of the 9 inch wide tires is causing more drag or is it because the rims are so much heavier. also the speedomiter is 4 mph slow now.
Ok now having that question gone do you think performance mods such as a flowmaster cat back systme and a computer chip will help bring its pep back ?.

Thanks Syeth

new rims

Hey Syeth

What size tires did you go with?, I have 20" Lightning wheels on my truck with 275/45/20 tires, my speedometer is off by less than one mile per hour. Also, changing rims and tires has changed my gear ratio a little. my stock gear ratio was 3.55 and now it is 3.59.

Larry.

I do not know much about the tires but they are goodyear eagle gt 2's they came with the rims mounted and balanced. They were being sold on ebay from thewheeltrader.com i will find out the size and post it later. I just hope there is something to do to put the pep back into my baby(truck).

Well since you say you have Eagle GTII's I'm 99.9% sure they are the 275/45/20's. I'm using the same tire too, but I didn't really notice any difference in performance since the stock 255/70/16 tires were almost the same diameter. If you say your speedo is 4 mph off sound like your stock tires were smaller. Perhaps the better traction these tires give over stock is playing a part in it too.

I think I am going to have to get flowmasters or a computer chip to bring back its pep. I just think the little 4.2 with a automatic tranny can't handle the extra grip i do not know what the width of the stocks were but the 20's are 9 inches wide. thanks for your responces im not sure what im going to do .

forget the chip and exghaust to get the power back if the 18" lightning wheels and when i punch it form a dead stop it wont do nothing its because of the bigger wheels. what they do is change your gear ratio. i have a stock gear of 3.08 now with these wheels my actual ratio is around a 2.84. now to get the gearing i want witch is 3.73 i would have to go to a 4.10 and then my actual gear would be a 3.77. check this sight out it will help you alot. www.bncoffroad.com/tire_gear_cal.html
