give me light ...

I'm thinking about trying to add a little light on my center console to shine around the cup holders . I think a couple of LED's would do the trick , but then I ran across this web site http://www.radiantz.com/radiantz1.html and this flexable stuff is pre made and wired , just cut to leanth then peel and stick. The site shows it mounted on a Harely as tail lights and turn signels , so it might be a bit bright for my applacation ... what do you think ?

Seems like they do custom stuff. You should be able to tell them what you're going to do and they could come up with something. They have some pretty cool products.

Someone makes an illuminated pin strip kit. IMO its kinda dorky for outside, but might be perfect for a small interior application. I think I saw it at Kmart once.

Found it in a catalog! It's called Californeon.

They have three kits - 16' pinstriping, 12' pinstriping and 8' interior accent kit.

Description from catalog:
A flexible strip of light that can be applied like tape and will turn on with your vehicle's lights. It can be cut into any length and will not break.

They have seven different overlay colors.

I'm kinda rethinking this already ... I have a little LED light on my keychain and it's pretty bright so i'm thinking it will be too bright to have more than one LED. I'm just looking for something to light up around the cup holders a little bit, so a strip of them , even a small strip will be too much . Oh well ... if anyone has an idea let me know ... thanks

Thanks Lowcountry ,
just what I need , except that I don't need to do the dash cup holders ... I want to do the ones in the console . Probably every thing will work except I will need to run some wire to the console . Looks like his turned out great , I kinda thought just one LED would be plenty ... thanks again

That light with the tape kit you can cut, is also called EL lights. I have a window in my computer and have this stuff running around the inside and I can tell you it is very bright. I have the blue kit and it lights up most of my den where the computer is. I don't think it will look very good in the inside of your truck because the stuff it too bright.

cyberhiker,
I did what you are looking for. I did the 2 LED hook-up in the center console to see the cup holders also. I went to radio shack and got 2 small green LEDs and installed those. With a liitle bit of wire run under the carpet to the light in the das cupholder they are controlled by the headlight/dimmer switch when the lights are on. They are not too bright and blend in real well. It makes it easier to hit the cup holder with a drink at night.

See the attached pics to get a idea of what it looks like.

Thanks goes to FireZap for giving me the idea also!!

Wiring in the back was done like this. I used the small connectors so I can take it apart if I ever need too plus gave it some extra wire length so I can clean below it if needed

Hey thanks 2000fordstyle ,
I thought just one LED per cup holder would be plenty . looks great on yours ! as soon as I can get the stuff together and work up the courage to drill holes into the console I'll try it . Thanks again

Does the cup-holder snap in (like everything else seems to)? I tried working mine out but didn't want to put too much pressure on it just in case I was doing it wrong . . . !

swampview,
It does just snap in. Its a little hard to pop out the first time but will come out. I usually grab the center part between the cup areas and pull up while trying to wiggle it alittle. Take the black rubber inserts out of the holders first and put more pulling pressure towards the front of the black cup holder. It takes a little work but it will come out.

Hope this helps...
Also found that by using a coat hanger straightened out and pushed under the carpet edge in the console towards the dash makes pulling the power wires easier for the LEDs.
