Question white face gauge install

I'm looking at putting a white face gauge kit in my '97. Those of you lucky ones with the digital kit have it easy to get the speedo back right. Here is what I am wondering: Has anyone tried putting the rear of the truck on jack stands instead of riding down the road to get the speedo needle back in the right position? Would this work or am I totally off base here? Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

I know that I can't get a mph and rpm reading on the road and then try to get the same thing on the jack stands. But how about putting it up on jack stands, finding out that it does this much mph at this much rpm and then repeat that when installing the mph pointer.

I did mine by cruise control. Like put it on 30 miles an hour then right down the rpm's. I also did it again going 45 mph and wrote down the rpm's. I did this a few times to make sure it was correct and then I put them back on. I didn't have jack stands so I had to do it the long way. It all works i had a buddy of mine who is a cop clock me going at 35 and on his deal it said 35 so i'm happy.
