Unhappy Zaino doesn't last so long

I have been using Zaino for about 9 months now. I have performed the full procedure of clay baring, sealant, swirl reducer, and top coat twice. I have also put multiple coats of Z-2 (top coat) on in-between. ABout a month ago I stripped the hood, clay bared it, and put one coat of Meguiars Gold Class on one side and the Zaino sealant, 3 coats of Z-5 and 3 coats of Z-2 on the other side. The Zaino side did have a better gloss, but after 2 weeks already felt rough again. Now after a month if you rub your hand across it you would never think it had been waxed! What gives? I e-mailed Sal Zaino about using a wax to topcoat this polish but he said not to. Any ideas? This truck is driven daily and is parked outside 75% of the time.

In my experience there is no wax that lasts more than a month if driven daily and out in the elements. A friend has an M3 and uses Zymol's process and can't get more than a month also. That's why I use Meguiars. It's cheap and readily available.

Sal Zaino just wrote back to me:

Sorry but that's Impossible... Zaino is a synthetic and will outlast Meguairs 4 to 1.... and that;s a proven fact... I have tested Meguiars in my lab.....

Maybe Meguiars is lasting longer in a lab, but it sure as hell isn't lasting longer on my truck!

The call...

Well, I just got off the phone with Sal Zaino. Very nice guy. Gave me some more in depth information on Zaino. He said that it isn't the feel of the wax that is important, it is the waxes' ability to bead. So tonight, I must go home and throw a bucket of water on my hood and view the results! He was telling me that wax breaks down at about 130 degrees F and that Zaino is a synthetic that can withstand up to 500 degress F. Also, waxes like Meguiars and Nu Finish and that type are far inferior to Zaino as far as their longevity. I am going to have to do some more testing myself.

I have use Zaino and I was very impressed for what it did to my black truck. A month later I was cussing every time I walked up to my truck and saw the swirl marks again and the smoothness was long gone. I had to keep up with it more than I had time to do. Sure the water might bead but it doesnt look as good as it did. To me the feel of the wax on the truck is one of best parts about waxing a truck. Did Sal ever say anything else about putting a top coat of wax over the Zaino?

Love my Zaino, lasts along time. Haven't applied any in a while and still beads up and shines when clean. I only put more on because the shine is addicting and it is easy.

I came to the same conclusion a while back, it looks great but it just doesn't last, not to mention the time and expense.

Thumbs up

I like Meguiars, The Professional HI-TECH Yellow Wax 26. It lasts about 4-5 car washes. Holds up well in this hot S. Texas heat and dust.
