Just installed Exp. Center Console
Hi yall. Just installed a Exp. Center Console. It looks great. However I had to take off the arm rests because it was the wide console, which is OK with me since the top of the door of the console is high enough and is comfortable.
Please I have a question, I know that I saw it somewhere but I can't remember where it was, that is to say what would you cover the hole in the seat with?
If someone has seen the post that I'm refering to or has any ideas I would really appreciate it.
Thanks Cobrahms

Hi! Installing an Expy console is great, isn't it? Completely transforms the interior. I think you may have seen my response to this issue. Like you, I installed the newer, wider type console which means you don't need the existing armrests (don't forget to remove the cable on the driver's side). First, I cut off the (now)protruding metal lugs as flush to the seat as I could. Take your time and avoid damaging the upholstery! Next, I went to a "Craft store", and boy I'm glad none of my friends saw me, and bought two oval-shaped pre-cut pieces of wood. Made of basswood and approx. 5" X 4". I test fit my "plates," oriented up/down @ an angle about parallel to the seat. I used a forstner bit to cut a hole in the plate to clear the lug and drilled another hole for the screw that goes into the seat. (Tip- use masking tape to avoid splintering) I cannabalized one armrest for the oem fabric. I covered the plate and used a staple gun to secure the fabric. I went a step further and used matching vinyl for the back of the plate and used hotmelt glue to secure that. At the hardware store, I bought high-tech looking stainless (hex) screws and nylon washers (so fabric doesn't snag/pull when you tighten the hardware) and installed the new plates. I'm probably the only guy in the Western Hemisphere w.o. a digi-cam, so I apologize for no pics! I hope that this can help you, though.
Thanks for your reply. It does change my 97's interior concept for sure. Check out some of my mods. in our Members Gallery, Trucks Galore of ( click jump to)coarse featuring my "I'il Red Truck".
Thanks again Jim

Cool, I've been putting off getting a Expedition console for a while now and after reading this post tonight I finally gave in. I just got off the phone with LWM, they will be sending out my console on Monday, so next wekend I will also have the Expedition console installed and enjoying all the new places to put things without them ending up at my feet.
In a way I wish that Ford would just break down and sell these trucks with these consoles in them instead of the choped bin that they currently use.

speedy46,
I agree with you. Who do we have to contact at Ford to let them know that this should be a factory option on the new '03 F-150's???
