Wing or not to Wing?
Wing or not to Wing?
We have all seen them, a wing on the back of a Truck's hard tonneau cover. I don't see them so much on F150's, more so on smaller trucks. I can't say one way or another if I like them. I would never put one on my truck because it doesnt match the off-road look that I am goin for. I can't see how a wing would add any performance or handling qualities. But I respect that everybody has their own look that they are trying to acheive. And for some a "spoiler or wing" completes that look. What do you guys think, would you ever consider one or do you have one and like it? Or do you hate em and despise them?

Depending on what testing has been done on any certain wing,it could help or hurt handling either way. I had a 71 Cutlass that I put an 87(?exact year?) T/A spoiler on the rear deck. I swear it did make a diffference, quite a bit in fact. As for a truck spoiler on a hard tonneau,I have no idea. I like them for the most part, but some(like a Texas tail) are absolutely ridiculous looking
It would seem that it would work, directing the air instead of it just sliding around over the cover. I know a few spoilers that I wouldn't mind having, but it's all still a matter of what you like and don't like,,,,,98

I wasn't sure about it either. I wanted a good low lid but I couldn't get the Snug here in Florida and the hump in the ARE just kind of turned me off. After a lot of looking I went with the ARE but I also went with the wing as well. Since mine isn't an offroad it doesn't look bad. I think the hump rising up towards the wing helps to offset the looks of the wing, making it not look as hi as it does on other applications. I am pleased with the overall look now. Other people who told me not to get the wing have stated that with the HD and the ARE it really does look pretty good. Take a look at my album.
The ARE lid looks great on the S-crew!! They just look strange on the reg. and long beds,IMO. What a coincidence, though. My fiance wants a Miata in the worst way
. The same color and year even. Of course she also wants me to restore her black 82 RX-7,too. Glad I'm getting the truck stuff out of the way before that time comes,,,,,98

When you get serious about looking at Miata's, let me know. There are years to avoid because of problems, and years that are best. I can also point you to an excellent website for Miata's. You think this site is good, they really are fanatical about their cars and the infor available is amazing.
A wing on a truck looks absurd to me. I have never seen one that looked like it belonged.
I guess a well-styled wing on a 2 wheel drive ride like the HD or lightning would be OK.....but never ever on a 4x4...please.

Thanks Irutt! Sounds like a good deal. Could you e-mail me the web address for that Miata site? gaml@earthlink.net Of course I want to add some accessories to it(if she'll let me,lol) Later.....98

I have installed a ARE Sport Wing on a LoRider cover. I wasn't sure what it would look like eithier at first. But alll I have recieved is positive comments. It actually really looks good and fits the design of the HD really well. Finished off the back end of my truck for sure. If you are looking into making the truck look more sporty this is a great mod. I was worried it would look ricer. Not at all. Flows with the lines of the truck great. A good mod in my opinion.
I recently added an LSII with wing to my SCrew and I like the look alot. It does make the truck look alot taller in the rear, though.
I agree with the 4x4 comment. The wings look better on a lower truck, IMHO.
