Paint prep degreaser?

Is there a recommended degreaser for prepping for painting bumpers and such? Everything I see on here and other forums just post "degrease" in the steps. Like Purple Power degreaser? Or do I need to get that Prepsol stuff? I imagine types of degreasers matter, I just don't know which.

Go to Home Depot and buy yourself a gallon of VMP Naptha. I've been using it for more than 30 yrs as a degreaser before paint.

You can use lacquer thinner but i wouldnt recommend it. It is a hot solvent and can damage plastics, rubber parts, and some finishes.
You want to clean and prep an old finish, not heat it up with solvent.

Good luck
