Tinted badges and emblems?
Tinted badges and emblems?
I recently just blacked out my tail lights using rustoleum lens tint. I really like the way they turned out, however, the whole blackout process is becoming addicting! I was considering using the tint to do my badges and emblems on the truck. I would love a chrome black look and I feel like this could be accomplished with the tint. So anyways, I was just curious if anyone has done this before with lens tint/nightshade, etc. Please post some pictures with info! Thanks.
Both trucks look great guys! I was going for more of a black chrome look instead of a flat black which is why I wasn't too sure about the Krylon Fusion. Shadowrider, do you have any pictures of the badges and the 4x4 sticker? I'm interested to see how it turned out. On a side note, where did you get your nerf bars from?
I've been messing around with this for the past few days. I had a little bit of Duplicolor Shadow Black Chrome paint left over from some stuff I used it on, on my bike. It's kind of hard to use, but if you can get it to look right, it looks pretty sweet.
here's a crappy pic of one coat of the shadow paint on an old fender emblem. I sprayed it and then put it n the oven and baked it for a few minutes to try to keep dust off of it and dry it faster. Then hit it with a couple coats the clear that come in the kit.

Some tips for this paint, hang the emblems up so you can keep the spray can at 90* to the emblem. And this stuff if very transparent and will make any kind of scratch or flaw in the surface show up 10 time more. Don't go to dark, it turns a little blue after about 3 light coats.
I'm planning to get some new emblems and tint them with this stuff.

JMemmer77, those don't look bad. I was looking at the same blackout chrome kit to do the chrome exhaust tips except I was going to use rustoleum. I had seen some negative feedback on the duplicolor.
I can pretty much replicate what they made if you want to keep the ford lettering in a higher quality finish that looks factory.
I got my badges painted and put back on. The trick was to clear them first and then sand them lightly with 1500 grit, clean them and then spray them with Duplicolor Shadow paint, one light coat and then one heavier wet coat. Then dried in the oven for a couple of minutes and then 2 coats of Shadow clear.
Here is how they turned out.

I'll have to give that a try...this weekend I might go pick up some old badges from a junkyard and play around with a few different things
