Paint a '98 F150 flat black, can't decide on paint :(

Hey,

since I've bought my truck I had the plan to paint it flat black because I bought it with scratches and some dents but therefore it was quite a bargain.
Tuesday while I was driving out of my parking space some cyclist nearly ran into me while I was gently driving out of my parking space and therefore scaring the hell outta me and causing me instinctively to steer hard to the left and ripping the side of my truck (back of cab to bed) on a parking pole. What a sh... day...

Now the truck will go to the body shop in approx. 1-2 weeks and they will prepare the body for me to paint it flat black. :o (they'll also apply primer)

Now I can't decide what paint to use. John Deere Blitz Black paint is nearly impossible to get in Germany, so I thought about aerosol cans of Rustoleum flat black RAL 9005.
Should I just sand down the remaining white paint of my truck, fix the dents and apply the cans of Rustoleum?
The shop that sells Rustoleum sells them in aerosol cans and in regular cans, but then I'd have to buy a paint gun...

For the plastic fender flares I've already got plastic primer in an aerosol can.

It would be great if you guys could help me out.
The result doesn't need to be perfect, but the paint should protect the outside metal of the truck against rust.

Greets, Johannes

I would try an automotive paint, would not use a rattle can unless you do not care about the finish. Cans of rustoleum will not be smooth or uniform and you may have slight variations in the paint due to different batches, plus it does not hold up well in sunlight, can fade. A good satin black finish would look better than flat black in my opinion. You will need to use a good HVLP gun with an automotive paint.

Definitely a HVLP gun w/quality paint or don't waste your time. I'd clear it as well. You can use different types of clear depending on what your after. For durability/longevity anyway.

look into the availability of Hot Rod Flatz or even ordering the satin paints from summit.

another option is to do base/clear w/ a satin clear. many use mercedes bumper paint, it will hold up much better and be easier to keep clean since you really can't wax it w/o changing the finish.

@Crash:
Love the look of your Expedition, looks really mean!
Where did you get the clear headlights?

Unfortunately John Deere Blitz Black and the paints from Summit only ship via ground because of safety reasons so no chance for me to get those. :|

Mercedes bumper paint sounds good because in Germany you should be able to get that everywhere, I might ask at a mercedes dealership next week!

I found some German dealers for farm equipment that sell john deere spec flat black. Those are only about 15$ for 750ml and seem to be easy to paint with a paint gun and holding up good against scratches, light, fuel and other stuff.
But no one tried that on a truck before, just farm equipment, but the people who painted their gear with it are very happy about the results.

Why has everything to be so difficult...

Greets!
