Too 'black?'
Too 'black?'
Long time, no post. Anyway, I come to guys looking for suggestions. I'm going to take off my grille and cowl today and repaint gloss black and clearcoat it as well. I was thinking, while I'm at it should I take the bed caps off and paint those black as well? And then while I'm at that, should I paint ALL plastic accessories black to match and make everything "flow?" I'm talking like the plastic trim around the back window, plastic trim under the front bumper, plastic trim on top of the back bumper, plastic trim on the running boards, and the plastic trim on the tailgate handle.
I'm afraid it will be too much black and not look right. I'm only most likely going to "prep" everything today and paint tomorrow. I'm going to prep everything with mean green and some fine sand paper. I may go ahead and get a coat of black on the grille if it's not too late when I get around to it.
So I'm looking for some suggestions, on how much to paint.
Here's some pics I took the other day when I got a coat of wax on the ol girl:

Thanks for any suggestions, guys. I won't be able to start on it until after supper.

Yeah I'd say that everything that is already black can only look better repainted black. Sweet truck by the way man sometimes I wish I woulda saved some coin and went with an obs extended cab like yours.
Thanks dude! I think everything looks better...outside of the lower valence. I think that looks a little "too black" lol. Like I feared.
I went ahead and re-painted the grille. I honestly think the glossy black look, looks better than the factory greyish black it came with. I think though if I paint the lower valence and hate it, I should be able to wet sand it back to how it was before. Only problem is, I'm not sure how to go about taking just the lower valence off. I felt some screw on the inside of the chrome part of the bumper and took those all out. But the lower valence was still sturdy up on there and couldn't get it off. So I gave up because without someone there at the house, I wouldn't have had a way of putting it back on while someone held it up. Anyone have any suggestions on how to take it loose?
Thanks, ZW, 06, and bossman!
06- I might try the heat fun thing on pieces I can't get off, like around the mirror and the top of the back bumper. But everything else I'm thinking I want to get painted black.
Once I get it all done sometime later this summer, I'll dig this thread up and post some updated pictures. I'm wanting to get some pics of the truck on an old train bridge out in the country and next to some corn fields in the country and then one with the river and George Rogers Clark memorial in the background. Should all make for some neat pictures.
