is there a how-to on a way to pop them off? i put 09+ style mirrors on my 08 to replace the ugly tow mirrors and i don't want to break the plastic clips or anything.

The info for getting to them should be in here. This was in the index of the Articles and How To in the Exterior Lighting section.

i just replaced mine with the factory black piece that comes on the XLTs or STXs or whatever the lower model is. ordered them from tascaparts.com and took all of about 2 mins to install. they pop right off with a flat head screwdriver or pocket knife. start at the outside of the mirror, not the side closest to the truck, put the knife between the reflector and the mirror housing and just push it towards the cab. its important you pry from the outside of the reflector as the inside by the cab is the "guide" side.
