Wiring Bed Lights
Wiring Bed Lights
Hello all, I'm looking at wiring in some LED bed lights under the rails in my 2007. What I'd like is for the lights to turn on when I use my remote entry key fob or open the doors. Basically mimicking the actions of the factory bed light on the cab and the interior dome lights. I don't want to put in a switch and hook up to constant power. Does anyone have suggestions/instructions on the best/easiest way to tap into the interior light, or cab bed light power? Safely! Thanks.
I originally had mine hooked up through a relay and the tail lights so they would go on when I unlocked the door with the remote. They would go off after about 30 seconds. I could get them to stay on if I turned on the headlights, but found this was a hassle.
What I did was ran a direct line from the battery to a switch I mounted on the inside of the upright metal in the bed behind the tail light, then ran the wiring into a door jamb switch, then to the lights. This way the lights automatically come on when I lower the tailgate, but I can turn them off with the switch if I will be leaving the tailgate down.

you can tap into the trucks dome/cargo circuit easily in the drivers door rocker panel.
Pull the plastic cover on the floor and youll see the large loom running inside from front to back.
Find the black with light blue wire, 20 gauge. This should be + for the dome light/puddle lamps/rear cargo lights.
There are two very close looking black with light blues so youll have to probe to make sure with lamps on and off.
Run that to your + LEDS and - to a good ground and your set.
