Its hard to show how dark it is because it still shines like chrome, but you can see the difference when you compare it to the chrome plate I layed next to it.and with each coat you can make it darker.

As far as durability, it's probably comparable to if you ptm the bars, meaning it will probably chip with rocks....just go heavy with the clear coat.

Hey Ruffn-it....

Just wanted to say, that is one bad a$$ looking F150..... and just so you know, I've never liked 09-10's !

That said, , my 08' will never look this good without bigger wheels / tires, which will not likely ever happen, as it would go completely against my uses for the truck.

Another thing that looks great on your truck (asside from the black grille, which is obvious) is the black trim around your lights. That in itself, makes your lights look great ! What's up with that tan or grey looking plastic crap around so many 09-10 headlights ? That crap is hideous ! Whoever at Ford came up with that, should be fired, and beaten' !

Oh anyway, however you accomplish it, yea', I think black chrome would look great on your step bars.

Take care of that beauty

Fish

I never noticed the tan or grey trim on the lights before. I seem to hate the clear or chrome edging around the lights, especially on a dark truck. I'm probably going to get some dark leds or harley's, or might try to tint around the edges.

But thanks for the compliment. So what's holding you back from lifting yours?

I'm glad I came across this thread. The link Elvato provided on the first page inspired me. If you scroll a quarter of the way down the page, that guy posted a pic of his emblem. I like how the "FORD" still showed through. I've been tring to figure out someway to get rid of the blue for a while now. I think I will try it this weekend.

Ruffn-it, did you ever do your step bars?

another thing that works if you have access to a paint both or garage where you can use a paint gun... use light grit sand paper just to give the paint something to adhear to. mix black paint to clear coat to give it the ammount of tint you want then spray, after getting the color you want let the tinted clear flash and spray again with non tinted clear...
using rattle can is alright on somethings but on a big project or multiple pieces id go this way. the paint is thicker and is mixed to ahear better
