help painting grille
buy duplicolor self etching primer, then paint with duplicolor paint of your color choice. I say duplicolor specifically because its worked the best and lasted the longest for me with the three - four grills i've painted.
From the Technical Articles section:
How to Remove Your 2001 F-150 Grille and Paint it!!!
My local hardware store doesn't carry Duplicolor, and I didn't feel like driving all over town looking for it, so I went with Krylon Fusion for Plastic in Satin Black without any primer and it turned out nice. I just did it about 10 days ago, so time will tell how well it holds up.
I washed the grill with dishwashing soap and hit it with 0000 steel wool (which was tedious and a mess) as suggested in the above article. I'd also recommend washing it again after the steel wool to get rid of any steel fibers or plastic dust. After washing I hung mine out on my kids' swingset to dry in the wind, but got impatient and finished drying it with my cordless leaf blower.
