9005 Fog Lights
9005 Fog Lights
Hey guys I drive a 07 Harley Davidson and the stock fogs are 9145/H10 but i ordered 9005's last night without thinking about the increased wattage. The question I have is this, Has anyone put 9005's in their fog's and if so have you experienced a melted lens? The stock 9145's emit around 35-40 Watts the 9005s I ordered emit 100W. Should i be worried about that housing melting?
Be very worried! mine were only 50W and melted. Anyway read the thread below for more input.

yes they can melt the lens....because the housings are plastic they will get hot and warp the lens and melt in towards the bulb. I used to run them in my mustang Roush fogs until I upgraded to HID's but I also had a hard glass fixture and not plastic so I didn't have problems.
You can try drilling a ventilation hole in the back of the housing to let some heat escape but if water gets inside it will cause the bulb to explode.

Try going with Sylvania's SilverStar replacement bulbs. That what I ran before swapping to HIDs.
Or you can swap out for the 04-05 bumper with square fogs... they're larger housings and don't melt as easily.

I have a set of hid's for the fogs i just don't want to install them because i already have 8000ks in the heads and 2 sets of hid's is overkill i already get constant flashing from my lights being too bright. i bought the hid "look" 9145s. And as far as switching to the 04-05 bumper. Maybe if i didn't have a Harley that could be considered. But it wouldn't look as good i.m.o.
