So I just put on my steel hood the other week and it looks great but when I lift it to get into the engine compartment the hood lift supports will not hold the hood up anymore due to the added weight. Does anyone know where I can get stronger ones? I could do the old cut broom stick handle but I don't think that would look great.

I don't know about stronger lift struts but they do make a device that will clamp around the existing ones that will make it so they can't slid down.
