I just bought a 2010 F-150 XL. Pretty basic accept the dealer threw in a set of nerf bars. They were after market not Ford bars. I've had the truck for about 2 months. The bars are NOT comfortable. I think that they sit too high or are too close to the body. I can not put my foot fully on the bars.
I was thinking of shimming the bars down to allow for space. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

depends on how the mounts are, sometimes there is a little adjustment on the mount itself without shimming it.

If the bolts go up into the body/frame you can just put a few washers and space the bars lower, just make sure you put some loctite on the bolt since you'll have less threads in the body/frame and you wont want the bolts to fall out.
