HID problem and suggestions

Hey guys I recently had an HID kit installed in my heads and fog lights. its and 8000k kit in both but they are not the same color??? It is much more noticeable in the day time. the fog lights look really blue and the heads like white....The shop told me that it is because the refective lens in the heads was more than in the fogs or something like that. But ive had a 10000k kit before and heads and fogs matched perfectly.

Has anyone had this problem with their HID's too???

Should I try to get my money back and order the DDM kit? seems to be what a lot of guys on here are running.

thanks for the help.

The only thing I can think of is either (A) they installed bulbs that are mislabeled, or (B) put a 55w kit in your heads, which causes the blue tint to be taken down quite a bit compared to a 35w kit.

As them to put another set of bulbs in, the same temperature, and ask them to put a few other temperatures in to see if they are any different.

more information

What is the wattage and Kelvin rating for the HID kit you installed in the headlights? Is it the same wattage and Kelvin kit in the Fog lamps?

You didn't read his post well enough, as he stated the temp ratings.

I am not sure on the 55w vs. 35w as far as I know they were both 35w 8000k. I had a shop instal them but since then they have refussed to refund me and I have replaced them and installed a new set yesterday. They match a lot better but I can still see a little difference. Maybe I am just too picky about it but it is what it is. Guess Ill keep trying to get my money back.

if you do get your money back, go with a 55w 8k bixenon kit from Retro Solutions. its the perfect combo of blue and white. super easy to install, and a lifetime warranty!

Wattage

Usually the light from the fog lamps will appear to be brighter; but should have the same color. Most people stay with 35watts in the foglamps doe to the small enclosure. If they did 8000k 55w in the heads and an 8000k 35w in the fogs the color will be off - which is why I was asking the wattage as well as the kelvin in each kit.

Gotcha. It also depends on how your fog housings reflect light. I recently had a 55w 5k kit in my headlights, and a 35w 4.5k kit in my fogs. Needless to say, the fog lights were quote a but bluer than the heads. But it's fixed now.

How long have you been running these? They work well?

ive had them for about 3-4 months now. They are amazing. Although i do highly recommend changing out your stock heads to lightning heads if your going to do HIDS.

pop the hood and find the Ballast...will tell you what wattage each kit is.

Should only run 35W in the foglights as the temp on the 55W can melt the small enclosure. The heads you can run 35/55W. If you have a 55W headlight and 35W foglight kit the color is going to be off on the bulbs because the 55W will be producing more heat thus give you the whiter color you are experiencing. You can switch the headlight one to a Bixenon 35W kit and it should match the fogs....light output will still be substantially brighter than halogen and you will not have problems with the headlights seeing things at night.

I run 35W headlight and just ordered 35W fogs

Good to hear. I've been looking at picking up some lightning heads to go with the HIDs, just need to find some that aren't too expensive.

When I used to use HIDs, i ran 6000k with the same wattage and same company in heads and fogs and they were identical color. I guess I got lucky as the quality control on most of these asian made kits isn't the best, the color temp in bulbs is known to vary by a few hundred kelvin sometimes.

Good luck!
