Painting flares...or so I thought

So I finished painting the flares and cowl w/ flat black and matte clear coat but after I installed them, I realized how terrible my mirrors and door handles looked! Dang, more work ahead! The cowl and flares were nearly white with age but I always thought the mirrors and handles looked pretty good. Well, compared to the newly painted parts, they look terrible. I just got done laying down the flat black on the mirrors (I removed them) but removing the handles looks like more work than I want to tackle right now. If I go the route of painted chrome overlays, what's the best way to put texture on them? They dont have the match the oem texture perfectly but I dont want them smooth. Have any of you tried using the spray bed-line stuff and knock down the texture with fine grit sand paper?

Thanks for any input.
