Badge swap

I have chrome fender badges on both sides, and the chrome is starting to flake off. I would love to just take them off, but i think the holes in the fender wouldnt look too good. I could live with overlays, but all new badges would be better. Will 04-08 badges fit on my 03? I havent seen a definite answer. Whats a good vendor that sells the badges. I would like blacked out ones for the fenders and tailgate. Patriot decals site is down until the 19th, so are there any other vendors that sell these, or should I just wait until they are back up? Thanks

Cutting off the pins on my current badges and doing that? What would that gain me?

i meant that you can put 04-08 badges on your truck. the pins dont line up with the holes, but you can cut the pins off the new badges and tape them on

sorry i wasnt clear on what i meant lol.

Buy the 09 Badges, they barely cover up the holes, but they do. If you want, I can link you to an ebay auction to get two 09' Fender badges. Cut off the tabs and bondo the edges. I just did mine, check it out.

As you can see, these look like tailgate badges, but they're not. I cut off the tab with a dremel, sanded it down. Filled with plastic epoxy, then sanded that down so I could shape the rest with bondo. 3 layers of bondo, sanding up to 400, adhesion promoter, filler primer and black krylon paint. 3 coats of clear and you have the above result.

That's comparison between blacked out and regular badges.

The alignment pics are off on the 04-08 badges but by cutting them off and using 3m adhesive tape like the dealer uses works just fine that's how mine are held on and the been through some good washes and other stuff already haha

nice ideas. 09 badges are nice, but will they cover the holes on my 03? I want blacked out ones for sure. Whats happening with Patriot Decals? Are they coming back?

Yes man! They'll cover up the holes, barely, but they'll cover the hole up.

Also, Patriot Decals just sold the inlays, not the actual badges. I bought the badges on ebay for 45 for the pair, then modified them to look like tailgate badges. They still cover up the holes.

Also, I have a 2004 Heritage, which means I have the Old body style, esentially the same style as yours. Do it man, I just finished both of mine and they look awesome. I've yet to wetsand them, I'll install them tomorrow.

eh, just too much work involved. I already have an overlay on the tailgate oval, and i would be satisfied with overlays on the fender and rear badge. Is Patriot decals coming back?

So let me understand this...

You have 99-03 Fender badges correct? I'm not sure they make overlays for the 99-03 badges, or if they'll make anythin Ford after the whole decal ordeal.

Honestly man, it would be about 3 hours work, and that's cutting, filling, prepping and painting. Or buy F150 Tailgate badges for the fenders, cut the tabs off and use some 3m Double sided ape.

i hear ya, but i want them to be blacked out, thats why i wanted an overlay. The only other alternative to blacking them out is to buy badges, and use your method?

Yeah man, just a little paint if you buy the tailgate badges. Plenty of people have painted their badges on this site. There's a write up in this section somewhere.
