To line-x or not to line-x
To line-x or not to line-x
I have a 2006, screw, FX4 with the two tone paint. The upper is red and the bottom is the dark grey. I am currently running the stock 20" wheels with 33" cooper sst's. I do not like the dark gray bottom and am thinking about putting black line-x on it, the bumpers and the fender flares. My major concern is that the line-x may fade with time. I am also concerned with how it will look. I have removed my stock nerf bars and plan on installing n-fab ones in the near future as well (black). What do you guys think? Will it look or just alright? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I agree, I think it would look great, too. As Jake mentioned, Line-X has and anti-fading application, so you don't have to worry about that. I saw another member on this site who also did his lower two tone in Line-X and painted to match. It looked really good, and his was an 04-08 generation as well. It's gonna cost some large bucks to have this done though.
i think a good range to expect is between 600 and 1000 bucks. if your bumpers are chrome they have to be sandblasted first which adds costs. also search for jesserohr. his 08 superduty is white with white line-x rockers and bumpers and spike strider has his red truck with red line-x
Thanks for the quick responses! I had it quoted about a year ago when i lived in San Antonio for around $800. I recently moved to Dayton Ohio and the salty roads got me thinking about it again. My bumpers are not chrome so that helps a little. Do you guys think it would look better if I used red line-x instead of black? I am leaning towards black just to be a little different.
I have to agree that I think the black would look good. Plus, it won't be as expensive as if you were to get it PTM. Post of a pic of your truck down in the GD forum and one of the Photochop guru's might be able to help you out with what it will look like.

Line-X has an add-on called Xtra. It provides excellent color, shine and prevents and fading. The standard color is black, but they can also color match any color you'd like. So you could get red Line-X to match your truck, or stay two-tone, but with black instead of dark gray.
I'll probably end up line-Xing my rockers, wheel wells and bumpers, and using black Xtra. I'm thinking maybe next year's tax return will cover that.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have decided to use black on the flares, rocker panels and bumpers. Can you think of anything else I should have done? Has anyone ever done the under body for weather protection?
I've been wanting to do underneath the bed for a long time and will end up doing that before I do the inside of it
