Painting Side Steps

I really want to paint my side steps black since like everything on my truck is black, they're chrome right now. Can anyone tell me exactly what i should do to get them black?

Thanks

Sandblast and powdercoat? Would probably be more durable to PC than to paint them.

Now I don't know if this would actually work.... but what if you used that... roll on bedliner stuff or something similar... that way they wouldn't chip and they would be black. Not sure what you would have to do to prep them before though.

You must pull up the pads before painting or it will chip along the edge of where the step pad is. I also suggest a bedliner or something similar. Would hold up much better.

See this thread I made...zeruin gives a quick rundown of how to take off the pads to paint the steps. Be careful prying the tabs, though. I had painted mine originally without taking the pads off and they chipped the first day. I started to repaint them with the pads off but decided not to. Just left them off--makes the truck appear taller.

If you just leave em off can you see the frame. I wouldnt mind just leaving mine off but i feel like the frame would be to noticeable.

The frame isn't really that noticeable. I put some rubberized undercoating on mine just for the heck of it, though. $5 a can at Wal-Mart or Autozone.

Posted this somewhere else showing someone the undercoating, but figured you'd like to see it, too. Makes the frame and wheel wells really dark.
