Badge swap question...and yes, I've searched

Hey guys. Been catching up on the site since I haven't been around for a while. New interests, second job, getting ready for baby....lots of stuff has had my attention lately. Anyway, I have a few specific questions about doing a badge swap on my 03. I have searched but haven't really found what I am looking for and all of the pictures that have been posted about this seem to have been removed. It currently has these.

I want to replace with these.

http://www.fordemblem.com/f150/f150.php?emblem=105040

1. Does anyone know for sure that the ones I currently have only have the two mounting tabs and corresponding holes? I am hoping that there isn't one under the little Triton V8 part on the bottom because I don't think the new badge will cover that part.

2. What kind of tape you guys using to reapply and where can I get it locally?

If I do it I am probably going to buy these.

Seems to be the cheapest way by far. Anyone think it will look bad if I use one of these on the tailgate as well?

Thanks

Why don't you jump on the new style badges for the 09+?

Well I thought about that. They are sexy indeed. Some people don't seem to think they would look good on a 97-03 truck but I think they would. But I think the 04-08 badges would look just as good on my truck. Anything would have to be an improvement over the ones I have. The red XLT part on mine is faded to pink. Plus, I haven't found any of the new ones for $3.25 each! I can get three of those shipped to my door for $13.50!!!

I did a 2-page "How-To" a while back on here but have long since moved the pictures. Heres what I did with mine: I bought 2x of the NBS badges (lower area had nothing on it, i planned to add later on) and 1x tailgate badge. You do NOT have a pin behidn the V8 badge, it is connected to the larger one and they all have two sided glue on it. When you buy the new badges, they already have the double sided glue on it. You just peel back the sticker thingy and apply. Also, the NBS has diff. hole positions vs the OBS holes. So i trimmed them off and applied with two pairs of eyes and a laser leveler.

You can see the difference here:

Removing tabs:

Removing old glue (use alcohol to remove the tiny glue spots until you have it looking liek the rest of the body panel and then spray ammonia to remove the alcohol off so i dosent ruin the new glue)

Its all pretty simple when you get it all done. If you have any more questions, just ask, I'll happily go in-depth if need be.

Thanks for the reply. I saw your how-to but like you said, all the pics are gone. Still informative though. I am still going to have to find some good double sided tape. The emblems I bought are pulloffs from conversion trucks so the factory tape is of course ruined. Might be a little extra work but I got all three shipped to my door for $13.50!

BTW, your new emblems are sick!! Great job.

These badges are a little smaller, does anyone know if they will still cover all the holes on a 00 F150.

My badges came in today and they look freaking awesome. Now just to wait on some warm weather.

Raptor, what did you do to get the white lettering? Did you use inlays?

Manman, I haven't done the swap yet but according to what I've read those should work fine. I think they are only smaller than the ones I am using or the ones that Raptor used in height not length. They should be long enough to cover the alignmemt holes just like any other emblem.

Str8t six......I figured those were inlays from patriotdecals.com so I checked and I was right. You can get them in most any color including chrome and camo for $15 to $19 a set.

that is the tailgate emblem. the fender ones have a piece under it to put the engine or trim lettering. from my experiences, i wouldnt bet on it fitting on your fenders

You don't see them alot but they offer just the f150 for the fenders, see below and the one for the tailgate. The one for the tailgate is a little bigger.
