installing new mirrors -help-

So i bought some new exterior mirrors for my truck. Thought I'd test fit them and make sure everything (i.e. electrical) hooks up right before I paint em.

taking the door panel off was a breeze, couldn't believe I only had two screws holding that thing on. when I got to the stock mirrors, I couldn't access the electrical plug. looks like the stock mirror is two pieces, the mounting plate and the actual mirror, and somewhere in between is the plug. looks like Ford used plastic screws and then melted the two pieces together. is this right? So I can't test fit without ruining the stock mirrors? Anyone else with aftermarket mirrors run across this?

oops, well, I took apart the door panel again this morning and found the connector down in the door.. my bad. I was thinking it wouldn't make sense to have to tear apart the mirror just to reach the connector.

Im replacing the mirrors on my truck too. my dads workers drove the truck as a work truck for a few years and one of the mirrors is taped on it looks pretty tacky

if you have any questions on how to get the door panel off lemme know. its a pretty simple process, are you just going with new stock mirrors? I'm looking to get rid of my stockers (my truck is an 01) since I won't be needing them. just let me know.
