going HID but have questions regarding fogs
Ok, i am getting ready to order my HIDs this week from HID4U on ebay... havent quite nailed down what color temp Im getting but it will be either 4300k, 5000k, or there is a very slim chance of it being 6000k, but I am leaning more towards one of the first two...btw if anyone has any pics of there 4300K and 5000K hids I would love to see them..i keep finding 6000, 8000, and 10000 but those dont interest me at all..im looking for clean, bright, usable light output...blue is of no importance whatsover but i dont mind a very slight hint of it...
my main concern is with the foglights, i talked to a guy locally who just did his 06 Chevy Z71 with HID heads and had his fogs as well but decided not to put them in because he couldnt mount the ballasts anywhere that would keep them from getting wet...this bothers me because I am not doing a bi-xenon kit so i am losing my high beams but will have HID fogs to compensate some...but my factory fog light housings take a good bit of abuse down there in the lower valance...mud gets slung in there, and then water gets sprayed throughout everytime i wash to get all the mud and grit out of there...i dont want to drop $100 on a set of lights to have them ruined the after a couple of weeks of riding and getting washed and what not....
last thing, when i install these...am I going to have to cut off my factory bulb connections? i dont want to do anything that is not reversible...so if/when one of these hid bulbs/ballasts goes out I can always swap back to my silverstars until i get replacements....i just cant stand the fact of cutting up my factory wiring/harnesses/connectors...so far i have managed to avoid doing this at all cost to my truck...past vehicles i never really had a problem doing that, maybe even did it too much but I try to treat this truck very very good so that I can make it last as long as possible...
thanks for any help anyone can offer!

First off make sure you get a relay harness with the headlights and the foglights...if not you are going to have issues down the road...The HID4U kits are cheap but you get what you pay for. If you want to pickup some wiring harnesses that will include an adapter to attach them to your stock wiring harness (this keeps the stock headlight switch and fog light switch functional)
2. NO you dont have to cut off anything from your factory wiring.
3. Zip ties are your friend for mounting the ballasts and if you get a wiring harness it will leave you plenty of room to mount them inside the engine bay. The ballasts are water proof (at least should be, I have never used HID4U).

hey
first off i have the HID4U 5000k HID kit that i just installed. I can take some pictures tonight for you.
1)honestly i would get the bi-xenon kit, its definatly worth the money IMO. but if not thats still totally fine
2)definately get a relay, i cant stress that enough, its a simple plug and play and all you have to do is plug it into your stock harness
3) you can mount the ballasts out of the way so it doesnt get too wet but they are waterproof, and i would suggest going further and wrap it with packaging tape and electrical tape, then you wouldnt have any problems at all
if you have any more questions ill answer them, i.e where i mounted my ballasts etc

where are yall getting these wiring harnesses with relays at that just plug into my stock wiring? i definitely want to go that route... and that bixenon kit - was it still just a plug and plug setup or did you have to modify the housing for it to fit?
HID4U's bi-xenon kit comes with one relay for the headlights. I'm pretty sure the fog lights do not, so you'll have to pick up an extra one somewhere.
This brings up a good question I've had since I've done my headlights and now I want to do my fogs, do you need to purchase two relays for the fogs or is it like the HID4U kits relay where it runs both ballasts?
