thinking about Hellla Blackouts...

Do they let in moisture? or will I need to run a bead of silicone around them?

Nope, no moisture at all and I did not have to put any additional sealant on them.

Thanks man! I took them off one Saturday, painted them, and then put them back on the same day.

No moisture here... I love them!

ncf, was there a thread about you painting your mirrors like that? I'd love to do that with my truck.

EDIT: btw ncf, you need some stealth bulbs! =p

Nope, no thread on doing my mirrors. It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it'd be either. Regarding the bulbs, I kinda like them as they are, this way they match the markers on the outside of the lamps. If you'd like, I can give you the info on how I did my mirrors.

How to paint F150 mirrors

You did a beautiful job on your '04 ! I am working on my "04 and would really be interested in how you got the mirror covers OFF, did you sand them smooth to remove the texture?....and any how many clearcoats did you apply?
Thank you, Craig

Definatly interested on how you approached it. I saw a red Saleen F-150 with the painted mirrors and wanted them ever since.

Guys, the first thing I did was remove the mirrors from the doors. To keep this focused, I'll leave out that portion (however, you can do a search on door panel/mirror removal). I took some fine wet/dry sandpaper and scuffed up the upper portion of the mirror leaving the texture on the mirror. I felt that the texture would help avoid rock chips, just like the rocker panels have texture on the bottom sides of our trucks. Once scuffed, I taped off the entire mirror except the portion to be painted. I applied 2 coats of plastic adhesion promoter, 4 coats of plastic type silver paint, and 3 coats of the plastic type clearcoat. Let them dry, and then reinstall.
