to clear or not to clear (nightshades)

Ok,
So I've been searching the forum for insights on Nightshades for my tails , and I couldn't find a clear consensus on whether or not spraycan clear coats will make the tails look milky, and I really want to do it myself and not have a paint shop clear them (running low on funds). I saw one post that said they used Krylon clear with good results, anyone else? I'm going to buy the Nightshades soon and really want to clear them. Also, where would I find LED bulbs to help with the light output once I do tint the tails? Thanks y'all

I remember someone posting a link to another forum where they just buffed the lights with wax (or was is plasticX) and they looked pretty good. But I'm also interested.
