Question supercrew mirror question

I would like to get the top half of my mirror painted like the king ranch. But I don't want to have it taped up and sprayed and I dont have the time to put my truck in the shop. I was wondering if the top half can be removed so i can just drop it off and pick it up like a week later

I know the 07 fx2 mirrors had separate sections for the top and bottom of the mirror cover, but not sure about other models. Everything 06 and older was one piece. With mine I popped off the mirror with a long flat screw driver and then four torx bolts removed the whole mirror cover. Then I took that to the paint shop and put my mirror piece back on in the meantime.

You cannot remove the top part without hitting something with it say around 50 mph, I know this firsthand. Your best be would be to remove the mirrors formthe truck ands leave them at the body shop for a few days. You can drive around without mirrors just don't change lanes.

This will tell you how to remove your mirrors:

Check out page 6 to just remove the glass and then cap. That's what I did, left the mirrors themselves on the truck. Removed the glass, took off the cap, and put the glass back on while the cap was at the shop. Mine is an 06 so the back was all one piece. Like I said, I know the fx2 had a separate top and bottom, don't know about the king ranch. But, the painter can just tape off the bottom and paint only the top half.
