Tailgate Logo - Overlay ??

I just applied an overlay to my tailgate oval ('07 F-150). While it looks good, it would look even better if the F-o-r-d wasn't raised. Has anyone removed the oval and applied an overlay directly to the tailgate in the space the oval occupied? My thinking is that if there aren't any large holes in the sheet metal the smooth surface would help quite a bit, to say nothing of eliminating the convex surface of the oval.

except for the fact there is 2 large holes. You could always lay a piece of 3M over the whole sticker.
