i have a 97 f150 xly standard cab and was looking at getting replacement for all four in front and in the rear as well. my truck was built in0196 and the set will fit 0796 on up......what is the difference? tyhe item i am looking at is on ebay...

Your problem is your need the header panel behind the grille that headlights mounts to. Do a search this has been covered before. It's not too expensive, but it's requires time and effort. Also, in that case you might as well buy the lightning front end because it will all work with the right parts, a 97 lightning clone wont look anywhere close with it's original grill, the 99-03 grille is much bigger. and the bumpers are completely different also.

 

In addition to the header panel you will need new headlight retainer clips. I am in the process of doing mine as well. Went to the dealership today and bought all four that I will need. If you need a header panel PM me and I will get you the name of the guy I bought my new one from. $65 shipped. Better than the $125 they wanted at the junk yard.
