New gas cover

I was looking for a new gas cover (billet style?) and was wondering what some of you had out there and where to get them. Thanks

I really like those AMI ones, would you recommend getting the push-to-open style one or the locking ones?

I didn't find the need for a locking one. Mine's not a push-to-open either, haven't seen any of those yet.

True, if someone wants it they will get it. I don't really care for the locking part of it but I guess having that 34 gallon tank maybe people would be more tempted to take it. I don't know, it seems like more of a hassle to have a locking one.

A locking cap seems like more of a hassle than anything - And there's always the risk of losing the key(s)...Plus, it seems very rare for people to siphon gas nowadays.

I just installed an all black push to open gas door from stylinconcepts.com and it works great. It cost the same price listed on that website, which was much higher than the cost of the previous gas door I had one, but it is well worth it.

It took me approximately 1.5 hours to remove the old gas door, which I got for ~$50.00 a few years back, as it was rusted and made from poor materials. The screws were stripped and rusted, the chrome plating was bubbling, and overall it was just a piece of junk!

So if you're going with an aftermarket gas door, I'd say forget about the locking doors, and spend a few extra bucks on one that is going to last.

Good luck!

I always thought it looked kinda ricey IMO and I know I will catch hell for saying that.

A user, 'crazyaboutF150' painted his to match the body which doesn't stick out so much and blends with the truck more. It still keeps the nice modded touch.

I plan to do this painted billet installation as well.

I've got the shadow gray color so I figured the black cover would look pretty nice on there.

I'm sorry to say this, but the gas cap in that picture is made of poor materials and turns into junk after a couple years. that is the same one that I had, and because the screws rusted and stripped, and because the plating bubbled and rusted as well, it took me quite a long time to remove it. If I remember correctly, that is a polished gas door and only plated.

I don't mean to be offensive, but I am just relaying my experiences with that particular gas door. The clips that you have to put onto the sheetmetal in order for that gas door to screw in are impossible to get off if the screws rust and/or strip.

If you go with one like that, you have to make sure you keep it dry and at the first sign of any rust or bubbling, remove and replace. I'm in Colorado so doing the above is not easy.

Like I said, I'm a strong believer in spending a few extra bucks on a superior product. However, that cap does look great and hopefully you won't have any problems with it.

I just installed the one that I got from StylinTrucks.com and it looks very nice. I got all black with chrome/stainless rivets, link here

Regards
