converting FX4 grille to FX2

I know this has probably been beaten to death already on here, but I just joined and am looking for help/advice. I have a 2004 FX4 and I want to replace the grille with an 2007 FX2 grille. Should I just retain my original grille surround, or have the new one colour matched and go with the whole unit as it comes complete. Any advice on install time and what I can expect? Any help would be much appreciated folks.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure it'll look sweet, I love my grill. I just wish the Ford emblem wasn't so massive.

I agree with you ARCA Ex...I wish you didn't have to put a badge on the grille at all. Well, at least the FX2 badge is smaller than what is on the FX4. I'm hoping my buddy can paint mine next week so I can install it. I'd like to post some pics as well.

I just swapped out grilles myself, and I even swapped the color matched grille surround. Its not that hard, and I have two left thumbs, so if I can do it, you can do it.

Two words of advise though....PATIENCE is key, some of those clips seem like they are welded together, but they're not. The single biggest thing I did that helped me was pull out every butter knife in you kitchen you can find, and use them to pry apart the clips. Once you pry it apart, keep the butter knife inserted and move on to the next clip. Before you know it, the whole thing will drop out and you'll be on your way.

Yeah, here's my gallery on PhotoBucker (bigger picture sizes). I don't have many of it with the rims, but I will soon along with night pics of my Line of Fire LED strip installed. The guest password is 546, then click on the Truck album. (Ignore all the other stuff, as you can see it's a bunch of silly stuff, and my other hobby, which is my computer.) It also has phone pics from the dealer when we were browsing around.
