This is straight from sylvania
Good Morning Jon,
Thank you for your inquiry. Parts H13 and 9145 are not yet available in
the SilverStar Ultra(r) product line nor are they scheduled to be added
to the SilverStar Ultra(r) product line in the foreseeable future. The
highest upgrade that we currently offer for these parts is in the
"regular" SilverStar(r) product line, sold under the part numbers H13ST
and 9145ST.

Regards,
Customer Service

Where did you get the comparison pictures? I recently "upgraded" to Ultras from a regular pair of Silverstars and noticed no difference at all... Certainly not in the color. I thought the main advertised difference was the life of the bulb??? HOWEVER, I did purchase them on Ebay, but they had not been opened. I suppose there is a chance I got regular Silverstars, but I don't think so (mainly because the bulbs are marked as Ultras). Anyway, let me know what you think and I'd also like to hear what other members have to say about the Ultras versus the regular Silverstars.

P.S. - I'm using them in a 2003 F-150 with 9007s.

i too was unaware of any significant difference in the color/appearance of the ultras as opposed to the regular silverstars. i kept hearing that it wasnt worth the extra cost to go to the ultra b/c you couldnt notice a difference..those pics look like stock pics off the sylvania website or something...if we can actually see some real pics comparing the two at night that would be great b/c i do wish my silverstars had a whiter output than they do, i was a bit dissappointed when i bought them b/c of their yellow/white output as opposed to a brilliant white/blue

I too have the regular silverstars and a buddy of mine with a 05 Titan purchased the silverstar ultra's and we compared side by side and I could barely tell a difference at all. Not worth the extra money in my opinion.

That's the conclusion I have come to also. I would say I regret getting the Ultras, but my original Silverstars were a few years old and I figured it wouldn't be too long until they went out. Plus I saved a few bucks by using Ebay. The Ultras apparently do last significantly longer and I am satisfied with them overall, even though they're still a little pricey.

I was also wondering if anyone knew how the Silverstars are so much whiter while still providing atleast as good illumination as a cheaper pair of halogens? Granted they're not much brighter... When I first got them, I thought they would be less bright than a cheaper pair because of the bluish-rainbow coating on them. It's a very thin tint, but I still figured they would be less bright. I guess what I'm asking is do they run a couple of watts higher than a typical 55w halogen? I would think they're still 55 watts so as to avoid potential problems down the road. Anyway, it's not a big deal, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this...

i think they change up the mixture of halogen, argon, and krypton gases inside the bulbs to give it the whiter output. thats how the cheaper companies make their bulbs super white, blue, purple, and every other color under the sun, by drastically changing the gaseous mixture inside the bulb capsule. sylvania just doesnt go nearly as far as the cheaper companies b/c the color decreases light output once you past the true whites.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation to me! I bet all of the cheaper bulbs that are advertised as "xenon" only have some incredibly small percentage of xenon gas inside and the rest is still halogen.

Wait for the Hoen bulbs to come out. Not to take away from Sylvania and jack this thread, but I have used Hoen bulbs in the past and have been quite impressed. Their name is somewhat still unheard of, but they are quality bulbs for a competitive price. They are still developing the H13 bulbs for trucks, but have appeared to have finished the H13 bulbs for cars. The difference is in the wattage. I had a pair of H7s and a pair of 9145(H10) on my '04 SVT Focus. They matched the stock HID setup VERY WELL. I also had some on my '05 Jeep Liberty, and again they were top notch. I installed some on my wife's Milan, and matched with the projector lenses, they look pretty darn close to stock HIDs. Check out the pic below of the H13s installed on a new Mustang:

wow! that looks really good, those Hoen bulbs!

I've never heard of Ultra Silverstars. Anyways i just wanted to say if someone here wants some 9007 Bi-xenon HIDs, I have them for sale. Let me know. And good luck with your decision. If anything go retrofit with the M45 projectors!
