And yes, my truck is an 07, with the heated signal mirrors.
Hmm....I wonder about the chrome caps. Does anyone know if they are one piece as well. Are they are just chromed on the top half?. It would be nice if I could just replace the back part of the mirror. If so, does anyone know the part #. Everytime I call the dealership they tell me I have to buy the whole mirror assembly. Thanks.

Do you know the part #'s for the chrome covers(caps)? Also, would you know the part #'s for the bottom backing for the mirrors? I am wondering if I can replace the one piece back covers from my 05 and install the 2 piece 07 back mirror covers without having to replace the whole mirror assembly. The back covers for the 07 appear to be the same as the 05, just in 2 pieces instead of one.
Chrome covers, left & right hand, are part #'s 5L3Z-17D743-A and 5L3Z-17d742-A. The bottom cover portion is unfortunately part of the mirror only.

Thanks for the part numbers!!
Not sure what you mean by "bottom cover portion is unfortunately part of the mirror only." Does this mean I won't be able to use the chrome or PTM covers with my 05 mirrors? I can't just remove the back of the mirror on the 05 and replace with the 07 backing? Are the PTM FX2 mirror covers the same as the chrome? 05RedFX4 said the backing on his 07 mirrors were one piece like mine. I am guessing that the 07's that have chrome or painted mirror covers have a completely different mirror assembly than the 07's that do not have chrome or painted mirror covers. Please let me know if I am wrong about this. Thanks for all your help.

As far as removal goes, you have to depress the tabs on the inside of the mirror that hold it on. To do this, you have to adjust the glass to the extreme positions to see the tabs.
ncf150sc,
Can I use the 07 covers as a direct replacement on my 05 mirrors?
I'd like to get the PTM covers for my 05, but I don't know if they will fit.
Thanks.

Here's another option. I put a set of PTM on mine before the FX2 came out. They stick up/out about 1/8 in. They're about the same price so if they're the same as the FX2 caps IMO I'd go with the OEM. http://www.britechrome.com/ford_mirror_cover.htm

Thanks for the info. I really want to use the oem covers over the after market covers that are stuck on. I went to the ford dealership to examine the 07 painted mirrors. The mirror housing is exactly the same as the 05's. The only difference is the backing is in two pieces instead of one. Ford sells the top half(ptm or chrome), but not the bottom half. You have to buy the whole mirror assembly to get the bottom half. I may have to wait to see if I can either get one on ebay or I'll have my mirrors sanded and painted. I just don't want to have to drive my truck around without mirrors while they are getting painted. Hopefully some aftermarket company will come out with this bottom half.

I answered this question on page one,I assumed anyone asking for the paint to match covers did not have a 07.We should all try to be a bit more exact( including myself) when giving advice.

Well.....Sometimes people unknowingly give misinformation. That is why sometimes we have to find out for ourselves. The correct information is
the skull caps CAN be purchased seperately. So, the question was answered on page 1. It was answered by ncf150sc. I was just reiterating for those of us who were unsure about which information was correct.
