SC/CC nerf bars on a regular cab?

I've been shopping for a new set of wheel-to-wheel nerf bars for my regular cab 07 F150, but with little luck trying to find an in-expensive pair.

As I was looking through some of the trucks here on f150online, I came up with an idea, but not sure if it would work, or what I would need to do to make it work.

What if I bought a pair of supercab or crewcab nerf bars and mounted them on a regular cab?

If its the right length, they would pose as a wheel-to-wheel type in appearance, which is what I am trying to accomplish. I've seen a ton of ebay nerf bars at a pretty reduced price compared to wheel-to-wheel types.

I guess as long as I drilled the proper holes in the bottom of the body on the bed portion for one end of the bars to fit properly then it should, in theory, be ok.

Anything I should look for when I am going to try this?

Obviously I would need to seal/treat the holes I've made with something to prevent rust from starting, but anything else I need to think about first?

I don't think they would work because the mountings would be different. I have a regular cab with step tubes but they aren't wheel to wheel.

If you drilled the holes in the body, where the bed is, then I wouldn't trust using them for fear of bending the body pieces or just the fact of putting undue stress where it doesn't normally go. Plus, it would look strange to have the second set of step sections on there, IMO.

just my two pennies.

Yeah, I will check in the AM about that, see if the bottom of the body is supported enough.

I would stear clear of drilling holes for that if I were you. If you look under your truck and see the places for the factory nerf bars, you will notice the placement of them is pretty uniform. The way they attach is pretty simple. You get the hardware to put them on when you buy the bars themselves. you don't just drill holes and put bolts in. I would stick with the factory bars. If you find a cool guy and a dealer and if you're cool with him when you call, they'll be more likely to hook you up with a decent deal. I got mine for alot better than I thought I would. Every other dealer I spoke with quoted me around a hundred more than the place I went with. And because of that I got a number of other items from them. That's how a place gets a repeat customer. Not that you will need that but you never know. It's hard to find someone in that area that will go the extra mile. Just FYI. The factory bars look really cool i think. Hope you find what you are lookin for. Peace.
