It is only a matter of time before the incandescent bulb goes bye-bye. Hell they are starting to pop up in digital projection TV's now.

... and what's a 'digital' projection tv? As opposed to an analog projection tv?

The most overused, misused & least understood term there is ....

Yup. Hard to see how Led's will obtain the required number of lumens AND proper colour temperature for this application. For a cost that most of us can afford. Won't be for a while, yet.

It's okay to use unobtanium in a high zoot car where cost is really not an issue ... for the bling factor...

Digital = DLP - LCD - LCOS/D-ILA
Analog = CRT

Yeah it isn't necessarily correct, but it is generic terms that unsavvy consumers can relate to.

And here is the link to Samsung's LED DLP set. This is probably the future once the technology advances.

It'll be a while before LED completely replaces incandescent in different aspects. But with the longer life, less energy draw and potentially brighter and whiter output it is only a matter of time.

"The newer F-150 is the first to be getting them", quoted from here

Actually, the Audi will not have LED headlights, it will be HID. However, in Q1 2007, we’ll see some aftermarket DOT approved headlights come out from a top aftermarket auto lighting company. I saw these at SEMA this year (private meeting, not on display to general public) and they are VERY impressive. The first batch will be for newer F-150’s and (and whatever shares that front end). The high beams were still halogen, but the turns will be LED as well.
