Cervini Hood strong enough

I just got a cowl induction hood by cervini, fiberglass. My dad went to pick it up. He said that I wont be able to use stock hinges, struts, etc. Because fiberglass is not strong ennough, and when i shut it, it will bend. Is this true?

your dad is thinking about the old school, fiberglass hoods used with muscle cars back in the day, cervini's hoods are by far the best aftermarket hoods out there

Back in the earlier years of fiberglass hoods, you had to either:
1. Remove the hinges and springs, and convert it to a lift off held in place by hood pins front and rear.
2. Take the factory springs off and use much, much weaker ones.

Old school f/g hoods were made for weight reduction. All form, no function crap that rarely had any type of reinforcement, and could easily overflex and crack. Todays hoods are like comparing Corvettes to Chevettes.

Cool

HI!... I also have a CERVINI's 3 inch cowl induction fiberglass hood. The CERVINI's hood weighs twice as much as the stock ALUMINUM F-150 hood. You will need to get a set of 2002 CROWN VIC hood gas struts. They are the same length but have a thicker cylinder. They are a direct bolt on. They are twice as strong as the stock F-150 gas hood struts. The stock struts WILL NOT hold up the CERVINI's hood. It might for a bit then you will get hit in the back of the head with the hood. Trust me I know this from experience. lol!

PART # for the struts is : 6W7Z16C826A

For real. The new hood is wicked light. It only weighs 40lbs. I cant imagine the stock one is lighter.

Do you have the hood like mine?
I am still using the factory struts and hinges. This past winter, I had my truck in the garage with the hood up for several weeks and I had a light tied to the latch on the hood. The hood did close itself and the light busted the radiator cover (no biggy). But as far as normal useage...works fine.

FYI If you are going to get that hood painted soon, you need to make sure the body shop bakes that hood. If they don't, the paint may crack.

I have actually not painted mine yet...been 3 years. I want to make sure the sun cooks out all the impurities and I have yet to get dead set on a paint scheme.
