Should I remove door trim?

So im seriously considering removing my door trim now. Im about ready to strip out my old wax/clay/rewax and i wondered if its not too late to remove my door trim. Im concerned that i might have a little shadowing to the paint. Im not too concerned about removing all the glue, ive should have that handled.

So anyone out there do this that wants to offer advice, or a person story of pros and cons?

and maybe RP could even make this a poll of yes and no...

Thanks,
-Patrick

I think it would look better without it. but, if I had it on mine, I think I would leave it on for protection.

Yah but ive also noticed that i dont try to park up front anymore anywhere, and now that ive lowered my truck, ive reasoned with myself and deemed them worthless b.c they are lower then the average door seam bend.....

and ive got a hand full of dings already, so i figure it cant get much worse

I would think they would defend from most sedans, etc. I always park "away" if i can at all, but still got one bad door ding on the drivers side. Everytime I walked up to the truck, that was the first thing I saw. So, I had it removed by a paintless repair shop. Can't tell it was ever there.

yah ive got atleast 5 dings on each side of the truck, plus that bigger dent where that *** stick tried to pry my handle off on the passenger side to break into my truck

I figure eventually ill shave all the doors / emblems / tailgate, so ill have to pretty much repaint the whole truck, so im not too concerned about the few dings i have now....

I think it would look much cleaner with out the trim... But be sure to wax really good to make the paint match good. It might not match right at first, but with a little work it will blend in... I removed the door trim on my 2003 mazda 6 when i had it, and you couldnt notice after a good wax...

A good tip on removing emblems, trim pieces etc., is using fishing string to get behind the piece to break the glue. Use a sawing motion back and fourth pulling in one direction to seperate the piece from the body. It works pretty good... You might want to get some pretty thick string though, something like 25lb test... I came up with this idea when me and my friend removed the badges from his honda civic. And to remove the glue use a rag, and some hot water, or some of that stuff called opps.

Yeah, get rid of the trim, it'll clean your truck up nicely. Cheap mod too.

Patman,

Definite yes on remoivng the door trim, so have fun with that, your truck will look a thousand times better without it.

As for the roll pan, I don't think they look good on Screws and flaresides, that nasty little fake step on Screws ruin any chance of a good looking roll pan. On the other hand, if you know a really good fiberglass guy that can cut out that step and smooth everything out, a roll pan would look gorgeous, especiallly because the rear end would taper in.

edit: sorry wasn't paying attention you said Rockpick, not RollPan, the life of a blonde, even if I am male.

So as you can tell, ive still got a ways to go, still need to wash/clay/wax/polish it all.

So far tho i havent noticed any major paint shadowing, but its also pretty dirty behind where the trim was.

More pics to follow in the next day or two
