Question Roll pan install question...

I just bought a roll pan for my 2004 F150 Heritage. It just came in today. So far I have gotten the bumper and tailgate off, and I'm ready for the install but the roll pan doesn't fit flush.

Here's my question...

Do they usually come "pre-fit" or am I supposed to have to do some grinding and trimming to get it to fit flush?

Here is a couple pics of how it fits.

Now on this picture, If I do any trimming on the "corners" the upper part of the pan that I mount to the truck will prolly flush up ti the bed, but do you notice that little buldge in the bed?

I was thinking maybe I got the wrong one. Thoughts?

I just got my steel roll pan in and mine fit about the same. I am going to beat my sides out so they will match up. Then I will weld them in. Is your pan fiberglass?

Yes.

I wish I had a welder and torch. I bet a metal pan looks 10 times better

I just like metal better. I am no good with fiberglass. I am better with shaping metal the way I want it. If you play around with it, you can get it to fit better. They are aggrevating sometimes.

I learned something with my first roll pan....it's a pain in the *** doing it alone. I had to tape it in place, mark where I need to trim, then trim it. Only to tape it back up to double check spacing...wash rinse and repeat.

Anyway, all I need to do now is hook up my plate light, and get it to Gary's Paint and Body to be painted.

What do ya'll think?

Looks good so far. I see you got it to match up better. You won't be able to see it as bad once you paint it the same. With my steel one, where it curves around the sides it doesn't match up very well. I will have to beat it out to match. What color are you painting it?

Going to match the paint.

I wonder if there is a way to make it "smooth" with the body? Body filler in the gaps or something?

Know what I mean?

damn, this is why I recomend urathane roll pans, mine fit PERFECT right out of the box, fiberglass rollpans are always going to need some work to get them to fit right

Yeah urethane is great if that is all you want. (The smooth look) I have a urethane front bumper cover for my 98 Ford F150 and it fits perfect. Can't tear them things up. But got to sell it now because it sticks out to far at the end of the bumper and my 22's hit it when I turn. I went with a metal roll pan because I am going to put taillights in it and weld in my originals. Truck looks good Stynpicks.

Yeah I cut the slots in my pan for my LED taillights. I also ordered me a Line Of Fire 60" LED light bar. Once I get them mounted and working, I am going to weld the pan in and also weld the original taillights up for the smooth look. Also will flip the tailgate handle. I will put some pics on as soon as I get it finished.

I'd like to see pics of the work in progress.
