Question fender flares

ok so i bought some used fx4 fender flares off ebay.. and got here the other day..

i was looking at them and at my truck, and i guess on the models that come wiht flares (kingranch, lariat, fx4) they have holes in the sides of the wheel well.. along the inside and underneath the flare.. in these holes, littel clips that u push into them, are what hold the flare to the body of the truck..

well my thing is.. i dont really want to drill a holes into the side of my truck.. not so much worried about the underside... but heres my idea...

what if i fastened it with the clips or screws underneith the wheel well.. and then along the sides, i just used a bunch of 3m double sided tape.? and then just take all those clips off.. and use the little barcekts that th clips hook on to, as a place for teh tape.. ?

unsure on what to do here.. i dont want them falling off on the road.. and i dont want parts of the flare sticking out where theres space between it and the body..

what do u think, and any ideas?

I installed Lariat flares on my truck with screws in the fender lip of the wheel well and no tape on the sides.I have installed flares on several vehicles over the years .I tried tape on the sides before and it was causing gaps in some places so I haven't used tape since. If you hold the flare tight to the body and drill your holes in the right spot the flare will stay tight to the body.Helpful hint: put masking tape on the fender where the top edge of the flare contacts the body until your ready for your final install. This will prevent scratches on your fenders from the flare while trial fitting, drilling etc..
Pics in my gallery.
