Wiring interior LEDs need help please
Hey guys
i need some help i got some small led bars to put in my foot wells and under my back seat the bars come with a little switch unit and a cigarette lighter plug id rather hard wire them into a line and mount the switches somewhere problem is im not sure what wire i can use under the dash it says their 12v so does that mean i can just hook it up to my stereo amp power line? only problem being this turns off whith the ignition off and id like to be able to use the lights with the ignition off is there a wire i can tap somewhere for continuous power that is easily reachable?
thanks for your help.

Hey, you need to be careful with LEDS, they have a built in resistor to protect them from frying with 12 volts.
If the resistor is in the socket that you are supposed to plug in and you cut the wires and hook them up, they will fry. If it is in the housing it should be no problem. You just have to make sure you hook them up correctly, + to+, - to-. The tip of the socket is always +, while the springs on the side ae always-. Good luck.

i beleive the resistor is in the switch box but the fuse is in the cig plug i will have to wire those fuses in as well somehow.
now if only i could get at the back of that lighter any tips for taking my dash apart?
or any known easy access for those wires?
i cant wait to hook em up i have an RCD kit and 35" procomp m/t s on order ive got my 2 12s in the back im almost ready for the truck ive always wanted!

Why not buy a double (or any size) 12 volt accessories outlet to plug those lights in to and wire it to the interior lights so it would come on when the doors opened or put a switch so you could turn them on when you wanted. This might be easier then having to cut those plugs off and trying to wire in the fuses again. Then you would also have the functionality of more 12 volt accessories plugs too, if needed. Go to your local auto shop and look for your the manual and just look up in the store for a wiring diagram without having to buy the book, but the book does come in handy now and then.
12 v accesoires outlet? and where would i plug it into? are you talking about something that plugs into the power source next to the cigarete lighter? how would i wire that into the door lights? i looked up under there but i definately need to get a diagrame to find the right wire to tap into though

They sell 12v (cig lighter type) power receptacles to add more places to plug in accessories such as cell phone chargers, GPS's, etc. Get one with an inline fuse also, although I think they all come with an inline fuse already so this shoudn't be a problem. You would wire this to whatever source you wanted it to be on with. For example, if you wanted it to turn on with the door lights you would just have to find the wires for the door jamb switches that turn on the interior lights when the doors are opened and tap in. Go to the local auto parts store and look up the wires you need to find in the book and then you wouldn't have to buy it. But like I said earlier, the repair manual is a pretty good investment and would probably be of some help in the future.

im not totaly knowlagable when it comes to electronics and wiring so im confused. if im pluging something into the power outlet for power why do i have to tap into the door lights? wouldnt the power outlet give it power all the time and wouldnt taping into the door lights give it power too? sorry for my ignorance
yeah i know alot of guys think its ricey but im doing it mainly to get some light in the foot wells, if i was really ricey id be putting them all over my truck and under it etc. i think things like this only become ricey when you use them in excess

That said... if you consider interior "mods" to be rice, please cut out all your carpet and remove everything except a few gauges, and the seats... since the rest has nothing to do with performance... so therefor is "ricey"
Your interior is where you spend your time in your truck... if you want to do it up so it makes you more comfortable, then all the power to you...
I plan on getting seat heaters put in my leather seats, since they didn't come stock... is that rice?
I also plan on changing my interior lighting and guage cluster lighting to red... to better match my exterior... since I'm moving forward with a very red/black based theme... is that rice?
If he's not adding a 30 foot "spoiler" and a widebody kit... who cares.
Some people don't buy trucks to make them go 8 seconds in a 1/4... they buy them to use them... and a very important part of use is a comfy interior...
I also find it funny you list all your mods "3/5 Drop... Tint 15%F 1%R... Dynomax Bullet Gutted PreCats Dual 16" Efans
P&P TB/Plenum... L HL/Corners... Painted Grill Custom Sub Box Reverse Fogs"
How much horse you get from that painted grill?
the tint package?

^^^ IMO Pointless lights is rice. Unless he has a problem of dropping pens in the dark and needs to see the floor boards, i dont see why you would need lights there.
I personally have exterior, interior, and performance mods.....
