More Headlight Woes

To breif everyone, I bought Lightning Style headlights and installed it on my 01 F150 Supercrew 4 x 4. I also bought Silverstar Ultras and SilverStar Corner lights.

After spending an hour or so trying to align my headlights, i decided to go to the dealer today, pay the 40 bucks and keep peace of mind. When they were finished, I happily drove home.

I take my family out to dinner tonight, excited about enjoying my evening drive, when I still see the choppiness of the lighting. I also compared the light distance against other cars. my lights are brighter in the low beam, but short in distance and height.

Here are a few shots:

Not sure if it's standard or if it's the Silverstar ULTRA bulbs or the headlight manufacturer. I know of one member with the same issue. Is this normal for those with lightning headlights?

any advice?

what is the complaint? I think the ultras in your picture look great! Almost look like HIDs

I never adjusted mine since i bought them used off of a Lightning, but yah i see to not have alot of distance without brights, but i have bad stigmatism (sp) eyes, and i dont have the best of luck seeing at night anyways. But i figured ill just adjust them up a bit after im done lowering my truck the way i want it.
Id really like to get the ultras, but cant justify the 100 bucks right now, especially since HIDs arent but about another 200-250 more.

I actually bought those ultras from Autozone for 50 bucks plus a 10 mail in rebate. I posted on the Lightning forum if they have the same issues. I like the looks of the lightning headlights, but i kinda feel that it is quite a compromise to loose quite a bit of vision.

well chances are since you said you didnt buy the "real ones" that there may be a difference in the shape of the dome, or depth of the dome, or something to that effect that looks similar, but mathematically the way it spreads the light, its inconsistant. You might try the ultras in your old stock fixtures, to see if its the bulbs or the fixtures, also might try your old halogens in your new fixtures, eliminate the variables.

Pat, I thought the same thing. I couldn't sleep last night so i did the following:

1) changed the headlight to stock and kept Ultra bulbs.

The result was choppiness even with the original headlights, but the length of the beam was a little wider.

2) changed the bulbs to stock and kept the headlights stock.

The result was a little longer yellowish beam, but there is a little choppiness- not as bad as the ultras.

3) Changed headlights to new ones and kept stock bulbs.
This resulted in brighter lights ( yellowish, of course), and a longer beam.
Obviously the brighter lights are due to the new headlights, but I also realized that the ultras ( at least these particular ones) give a shorter, but brighter white beam that kinda compromises distance lighting.

If you dont want your ultra's im tempted to buy em from you.... Id even send you my cool blues if you want to try those out. I originally bought the cool blues, b.c i didnt have enough money for the silverstars (before ultras were out) and yah they look very close to stock light pattern, just whiter light.

Will the silverstar ultra lights fit the '04-up f-150's?

Ok i took some pics of my cool blues and how my headlights are currently adjusted. They were taken around 6:00pm and the sun was just going down, so i found some darker areas to aim my lights into.

Thanks tho about the lights, just hopin to get them a tad cheaper.

Pat,

yours seem longer and wider than when i had the ultras placed in. that is about what i get now with my stock bulbs. Maybe it's how the headlight reflects the light from the ultra compared to the stock. maybe my ultra was defective...i don't know...

Yah i guess so, idk how well you can tell, but the left one seems to be pointing down and past center. So ill need to adjust it sometime when ive got nothing better to do. Might pull the right one out to the right a tad too.

Im glad you got your problem worked out, even tho it isnt the best possible outcome

One more question guys. I am still thinking there may be an issue with the photometric of the headlights. Maybe the bulb isn't in the right angle to project a better beam.

I am getting another set of silverstar ultras, and will re-test it with these headlights, but i found something interesting ...and was curious if we could adjust this:
