FX-2 Grill..... Help

Newbe to the forum.....I have a white 06 STX with the H bar style grill. Went to ford today and ordered an 07 FX-2 grill. Parts guy told me I must remove the H bar grill insert and snap in the new one. He also told me grill must be painted. I have a couple of questions if someone can help me out.

1. Using my existing white grill surround..... is it possible to remove (unsnap) the existing H grill from the grill surround without distroying either piece? Or do I need to cut the plastic from the existing grill (therefore distroying the old H grill) as so not to ruin the plastic clips on the grill surround?

2. I want to keep the new FX-2 replacement grill the same dull black color that the old plactic H grill is.(matching the rest of the black plastic on my STX) What paint would you use/recommend? Or would you just take the grill to a body shop and have them match it up and spray it? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome!
You could try some flat black spray paint. You could also take it to a body shop and have them do it. I used Krylon paint when I painted my honeycomb grille. (pics in gallery).

Yes you can reuse your stock surround. Not the easiest thing to disassemble but not rocket science. There are little tabs that hold it together, just be careful not to break them.
I painted mine with a slight textured satin black paint made for plastic to kinda match the black texture of the FX4 flares. The grill comes in a light gray ( primer colored ).

I don't know how to post pics, can someone help me out

Hi matt, welcome to the boards, you can host your pictures (for free) in the gallery section of this website. Dont forget to write down your gallery number (4 digits) and insert the number into your profile page, so you always have the little camera icon in the top right by your post counter, and basic info.

I think this should work

If not, a pic should be in my gallery

By the way, you need to get a new emblem to fit the FX2 grill.

Pat or Matt

Is there a trick at popping the plastic clips so neither the old grill or the surround (clips) don't get damaged. I removed the surround / grill assembely from the truck. Just wondering if heating up the clips with a heat gun making them a little soft then attempting to pop them apart with a screwdriver. The last thing I want to do is break a clip on the surround.
