Neon is typically brighter than LED. LED's are just an electrical reaction and the max voltage a typical LED can handle is 9V. LED's are great because they use less voltage, but they also will fluctuate brightness as voltage changes, if there is no circuitry to help prevent this. MOST led stuff that we see on the market has compensation for this. The best part about LED's is that if you blow one, you can head on down to radio shack and get you a replacement one. Most expensive LED I ever bought was 2.00. A little solder and patience gets my LED lighting fixed.

Neon is more of a chemical/gas/electrical reaction. When the electrical current charges the gas, the ions produce the glow we all know and love. Bad thing about neon is that if you bust the tube, you're gonna buy a whole new one.

Yeah, galls is expensive sometimes. I didn't realize how expensive when I compared it to some of the other sites. Sorry about that.

Good point about the tubing breaking, never really thought of it. I haul stuff a lot so it could be a big issue. I just dont wanna spend the money on two LED light bars and be SUPER dissapointed with the glow.

 

You could call and ask if they are using regular LEDs or ultrabrights. A lot of vendors are just using the plain ole LEDs. The ultrabrights are the way to go. I custom built my computer and put one ultrabright blue on it for the power light. when the lights are out in the computer room, it lights up the whole room.

You might ask if they are using any kind of reflective material on the base.

That is not what i am going for. What i am going for is INSIDE the bed. It will be installed in the area right under the sides (that lip that is created) and it will light the inside of the bed of the truck.

That design is what i am looking for though but that kit wont work. Thanks anyways

they have all kinds of lengths, colors, and most are set up with enough wires. But if you have to add length ohwell. Also you could tie it into the upper brake lights' cargo light. So when you have the cargo lights on, the bed lights up. Then you could also wire a seperate switch if you want them on by them selves.

I assume you could wire these up. They have "light wires" and also LED spot lights that radiate in different configurations. The prices are pretty darned good too. Worth a look.

Whatever you decide to do, keep us posted as this is on my list.

 

Even if you can't find the blue LED set that you are looking for, you could probably go to a flower/gift shop (yes I said flower/gift shop), or hobby shop and find some of that colored, clear celophane or mylar, in the color you want. Take the lenses off of the LED bars and line it with the celophane/mylar, taping it in strategic places. Then you would not only have the blue glow you want, you also have a solution for changing colors, should you ever want to.

Don't worry about the LED's making it too hot either. They shouldn't emit very much heat at all.

Cheers! That is almost exactly what i want to do, except full rail and Blue.

 

i personally like the look of only those indentions lit up... but to each his own.

just keep it tastefull, and dont get too ricey.

Yea that is why i have to think a lot first. I dont want it looking like crap. I may just do those indentations.

 

found these on JCW tonight. Some had mentioned wanting some to go under the hood or behind the grille area. These might fulfill that need.
