Question Billet vs. Chrome

The stock gray honeycomb grill on my 01 Lariat SCrew is fading so I want to put something in that will add some zing without getting tacky.

In alot of the aftermarket accessory catalogs / websites I've been seeing some Billet items and some chrome items.

Which one is better looking ? Better Lasting? Sturdier?

or am I comparing apples to oranges?

Do the painted grill mod, it looks EXCELLENT!

I like the look BETTER than a billet grille, looks much cleaner.

I had the same honeycomb grill that you do on your truck. I bought a Stainless Steel Tube Grill (bolt over type) off e-bay for about $90 shipped. I removed the old grill and used a jigsaw to cut away all the old grill except the vertical columns of grill that I needed to attach the new grill. After a little sanding, I then painted the grill gloss black and re-installed. I'd say the whole thing took me maybe 3 hours (not counting the drying time of the paint) after I figured out what I wanted to do.

I'm really pleased with the way it turned out and since the grill is stainless, it will hold up a lot better than either chrome or billet aluminum. Let me know if you're interested in going this route and I can PM you step by step pictures and the e-bay seller's store where I bought the grill.--DIY
