Tailgate Handle

I want to paint my tailgate handle to match the color of my truck, but the factory handle is that rough sandpaper plastic or whatever it is, but bottom line is, that cant be painted. So I thought I would buy a chrome tailgate cover and paint it, but then I realized chrome cant be painted... Does anyone know of a place where I can buy a smooth tailgate cover that CAN be painted? Thanks

I believe that even that cheap plastic can be painted, though it has to be prepped first. You have to sand and prime it and all that hassle.

Do a search and you shall find. Several people, including myself, have done this. Someone, also, posted a how-to on this.

All you need to do is take it off. Sand it down with sandpaper. I used 220 grit I think. Clean it really well with thinner or something. Go buy a can of spray adhesion promoter at your local auto store and coat a couple of times. Then paint with your favorite choice of color and enjoy.
