removing plastic slotted tail light covers

I recently bought a '93 F150 Supercab, and love it. However the previous owner put black slotted plastic tail light covers, made by AVT, or something like that. I want to remove them but don't want to ruin the tail light lense itself. Can anyone give me advise on the best way to remove these. They are attached by what appears to be 1/2" wide strips of two-sided adhesive tape, possibly 3M.

guess what?! after a long day of working in the yard, i went by the truck and just for grins tugged at one corner of the cover, and lo and behold, it just started to come off. i don't know what happened, but both sides came off real easy. made me wonder if all the pulling on them I did finally did some good? the covers are intact, and no damage to the light lenses. yeeeeeha!
