wiring a trailer hitch 3rd brake light
Does anyone know how to do this. I have a lighted Ford logo hitch cover. It is supposed to operate like a brake light. But when it is wired the way the directions say it will also blink with one of the turn signals!
The bulb's used in the truck are dual filament. one filament is used for running lights, the other is used for turn signals and brake lights.
The 4 pin wiring harness only has a "ground", "left turn/brake", "right turn/brake", and "running lights" wires.
The 7 pin adds "reverse lights", "Electric brake control", and "Electric brake power" wires.
Why did this light come with a 4 pin harness if it does work correctly! Right now I set it up to be on with the running lights, but I want the extra brake light!
The only way I see this working is to run a wire up to the tailights and tap into the brake light wire.
anyone?

I purchased a "logic module" from J.C. Whitney for around five dollars (plus shipping & handling). The module allows you to wire the additional brake lamp and not have it flash with the turn signals. If you wire it directly to the brake lamp wire, it will flash with the turn signals. The module includes instructions on how to wire the light and module. My additional brake lamp does flash with the four way flashers, but it is my opinion that this is an additional safety feature. Hope this helps!
