Post Cup holder lights

I have a '99 f-150 and heard that some of you have installed cup holder lights somehow. I found the place to do it but i was wondering how you did it and what size light bulbs you used. Do you have to splice the wires? Thanks.

Thumbs up

Fire-Zap has a nice install list he has posted before on this.
I got the idea from him and did my center console as well as my wifes car. Install is real easy and requires the following:

2- LED from Radio shack= 12 volt catalog numbers are for the following colors:
Green 276-271 Amber 276-272 red 276-270
Reatail 1.99 each
Pick whatever color you want but they require a 9/32 mounting hole. These are for the smaller ones but they make larger size if that what you want

Wire to connect to existing wires in dash
Connection method of your choice. I cut/soldered and heat shrink tubed mine.

Remove the cup-holder assembly and drill the holes in the back side(looking from front of cup-holder) of the cup holders in desired location(make sure location will fit the lights all the way through) and run the wires to the existing dash light wire directly behind the cup-holder assembly. I removed the connector in the dash that goes to the cup-holders existing light and made my connection there. The lights dim and brighten with the dash lights.See this link for a nice pic of FireZaps location:

Sorry this is kind of vague as I did mine in center console and not the dash cup-holders but connection to power was the same.

I just picked up my LED's from Radioshack today and was wondering if anyone could tell me what color the wire you hooked your lights to is behind the dash. If I remember correctly I do not have existing (factory) cup holder lights. Since I do not think I have the factory ones what wire (color) would be the best to hook to. Just wanted all the info before I start

Hey guys,

The cupholder LEDs look cool. Has anyone tried to light the door handle pods? My last car was a Ford Contour and it had lighted door handle pods, it looked as cool as hell.
